Nag Tibba is a small and short yet a scenic trek located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. It is near Mussoorie and the base village is generally Pantwari. The trail goes through forests, meadows and ridge walks all ending at the lovely Nag Tibba summit. The name of “Nag Tibba" is literally taken as the meaning of serpent. It is a serene location in the lower Himalayas, a perfect break from the hustle bustle of city life.

Nag Tibba is the easiest trek around Uttarakhand and hence a good trek even for beginners, families, and even children. The trek is not that steep and long and can be accomplished in a weekend. The greater part of the trail passes through forested area with smooth ascent, so in case you have never done trekking previously, you will be capable of doing it in comfortable breaks. It is also a wonderful first trek to feel and experience the Himalaya without worrying about the harsh weather conditions and high altitude sickness.

The Nag Tibba trek can be done throughout most of the year, except during the peak monsoon months. October and June are the best times to do the nag tibba trek. But if you like snow, then December to February is also a great time because the trail is usually covered with fresh snow. If you’re after blue skies and mild temperatures then March to June and October to November are the best times to go. Every season comes with its beauty, be it green meadows, a cool ambience or the serene white snow landscapes.

The Nag Tibba trekking trail is around 16 kilometers and this is usually done within two days. By doing this, you will take a trip of about 4-5 hours a day and this is sufficient to make you walk at a comfortable pace, explore and have something to eat. The trek is not too difficult and a strong guidance and comfortable walk would enable even an ordinary fitness person to complete the trek without any inconvenience. It is a spectacular option in case you would like to discover a satisfying yet short trek. You will also have an adventure in river rafting at Rishikesh besides the trek. It makes the journey more fun and provides you with some dose of adventure.

The Nag Tibba summit is approximately 9,900 feet or 3,017 meters. It is the highest peak in the lower Himalaya region. Once at the top, the view definitely makes it worth the climb. You will have a panoramic sight of high peaks of the Himalayas like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kedarkantha and even Gangotri. Summiting provides you with a feeling of pride without the need of climbing the mountains too far.

Once you have completed the trek, you make your way to Rishikesh where you can get to experience long river rafting on the Ganga. In this section, you will find several exciting rapids, and water zones. The safety equipment- such as helmets and life vests- are all provided, and the guides are with you in the raft to ensure everything goes smoothly. Rafting on the Ganga is a very exciting way to conclude your journey with a fun and adventure twist.

Yes rafting in rishikesh is very safe even to a first time rafting individual. And it is not necessary that you should know how to swim in order to enjoy it. Each raft is headed by a professional guide who provides safety instructions and has been trained to take care of every emergency. There are appropriate life jackets and helmets you will be offered and even your guide will make sure you have a good time during the ride in the small rapids. It is an exciting process, nevertheless, everything is organized in such a way that you can enjoy the process being secure.

It is a good idea to travel light but a smart packer since you are engaging in both a trek and rafting. During the trek, take warm clothes, a raincoat or poncho, comfortable trekking shoes, woollen cap, gloves, and sunglasses. A little backpack, water, sunscreen, and simple toiletries will also be necessary. On the rafting day do bring a spare set of clothing and slippers or sandals as you will get wet. You should also consider storing a towel and waterproof bag for electronics or valuables.

Yes, you will have mobile access throughout the trek. As Nag Tibba is one of the lower altitude and shorter treks, mobile signals are usually available at various points along the trail. You may experience some poor coverage areas here and there but it would generally be possible to remain connected.

One does not require to be an athlete or super fit to undertake this trek and rafting combo. In case you can walk at least 2-3 hours at a stretch, can climb the stairs without too much trouble, and have no significant health problems, you will be able to enjoy both the parts of your trip. A few weeks before trek, try to do regular walks, jogging, or stairs climbing a few weeks before your trip to develop stamina. Before accompanying any outdoor activity, it is always good to keep the body active.

This trip is an ideal combination of the mountains and the thrill of a river in several days. Nag Tibba takes you near the serene forest of the Himalaya, green meadows as well as the celestial sky filled with stars. Next, the rafting in Rishikesh will provide you the adrenaline rush and a feeling of excitement riding through one of the most famous rivers in India. Altogether, they form a perfectly balanced adventure in which you can have the best of both.

Nag Tibba is a wonderful trekking destination, especially to first timers and families with children. The trek is not too long, the path is marked so there is no need to follow a map and no dangerous or difficult parts. It does not matter that it might be your first time hiking, you will love the serene forests, sceneries of the mountains, and beautiful campsites. Children over the age of 7+ are also able to do this trek if they are reasonably active.

At the base and during the day, the weather is usually pleasant. But as you climb higher and especially at the campsite, it can get cold, particularly in the evenings and early mornings. In winter, temperatures can be very low at night, so carry a warm jacket, gloves, thermals, and a woollen cap. Even in summer, nights can be chilly. But if you’re well-dressed and inside a sleeping bag, you’ll be comfortable.

Weather is normally good at base and during daytime. However, in the higher regions, it is sometimes cold, especially during the evenings and early mornings. Hence bring along a warm jacket, gloves, thermals and a woolen cap.

Yes! It is not a requirement that you should know how to swim in order to have fun rafting in Rishikesh. Rafting equipment has a life jacket, helmet and paddle. Skilled guides join you all the time in the raft and safety is maintained. All you have to do is to listen to your guide and simply enjoy the ride!

Hydration Can Make or Break Your Trek: Trek Leader’s Tips for Every Seasonred line

The main highlight of any trek journey will always be either the places you get to explore or the views that you will get to witness only once in your life. But to explore and experience all that scenic beauty, you must remain safe and healthy, which can be possible only if you do the proper intake of nutrients, and most importantly, of all consume water in a perfectly adequate amount. It’s an obvious yet the most ignored fact that Hydration is very important for trekking, it’s like the backbone of the whole trip. Which is why every trek leader’s first question at the start or end of their trek is - How much water did you drink today? Half of the time, the pattern of the answer remains the same, where some of them just give sheepy smiles, some tell numbers but are in doubt, and some of them have no idea whether they have drunk it at all or not.
