Why Chirbatiya Is A Must-Do Trek?
Chirbatiya is a beautiful weekend trek located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The trek starts from Chirbatiya, which is a small hamlet on the Ghansali-Mayali road and is perched at an elevation of 2134 mts. Since the trek falls on the connecting route between Gangotri and Kedarnath/Badrinath it offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan Ranges.
What makes Chirbatiya a must-do is that the entire village of Chirbatiya is covered densely with Rhododendron, Oak, and Deodar forests. There’s also a gushing waterfall that makes the place even more charming. You will also get to see terrace farming as the people in the village follow this type of farming. The quaint village of Chirbatiya is a peaceful respite away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
If you want to take a break from the everyday monotony then this weekend trek in Uttarakhand is the ideal option for you.
About The Trek
The trek starts from the village of Chirbatiya, which is 270 km away from Dehradun and takes 6 to 7 hrs to reach. From Chirbatiya we will trek to Rai the next day. It’s a 5 to 6 km long trek approximately and will take 4 hrs. With a gradually inclined path, you will reach the Rai campsite.
The following day we will trek from Rai to Kund via Patangnia Meadows, the highest point on the trek, and will drive back to Dehradun from Kund. The Patangnia campsite offers stunning views of the Himalayan Ranges and is one of the biggest highlights of the trek.
From Kund, it's about 7 to 8 km to Dehradun and the drive will take about 6 to 7 hrs. Except to reach Dehradun a little late around 7 pm, so make your bookings accordingly.
What Can You Expect From The Trek?
Chirbatiya is accessible for trekking all year round. The best time for the trek is during summer and winter. During summer you can expect the weather to be pleasant and the views are pretty gorgeous as well, especially as it is brimming with Rhododendron covers.
During winter, you can expect the trail to be covered in snow and the temperature can get pretty low. The beauty, however, remains the same in winter as well. For those who love snow hiking, winter is a good time for them to visit the trek.
Monsoons also hold a beautiful appeal for this trek but during monsoon, there are chances of heavy showers and landslides, which can be a little disruptive for you, so we suggest winter and summer for this wonderful weekend trek.
Sometimes people also use it as a base camp for Panwali Kantha Trek via the alternate route, which is 28 km long. En route the trek, you can talk to the locals, have their local cuisine, and also get to know the rural lifestyle.
The Chirbatiya Trek offers ample open spaces with scenic views that are perfect for camping. So, while camping at Chirbatiya, you can expect it to be a pleasant experience.
Patangnia is the highest point of the trek and gives a 270-degree view of the Himalayas. From Patangnia Meadow, you can see Mt. Trishul, Chang Bang, Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Neelkanth, Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, and more.
It is an easy grade trek so anybody is suitable for doing the trek. We suggest a minimum age of 8 years to be able to do the trek. However, minors from 8 to 17 years should be accompanied by parents or a guardian. We deem this trek to be perfect for anyone who wants to dive into the world of trekking. On the trek, you will get to see the unique rural lifestyle and grand Himalayan views, and it is also a great option for bird-watching.
During the trek, you will be provided with tents on a twin-sharing basis. The tents are three-person tents, so there will be enough space for two people along with the trekkers. At Chirbatiya, which is the starting point of the trek, mobile networks are available. En route to the campsite, Jio and BSNL are available but not at every point during the trek.
It is an east-facing trek so you can expect sunlight in the better part of the trek and as such this trek is pretty comfortable in the winters as well.
