Our Government Collaboration
Trek The Himalayas is India's trusted adventure provider. It is this trust that got us many Government collaborations across the country and become a part of life changing projects that led to many making a living in remotest areas of the country.

Uttarakhand Government
Starting with our home ground, in 2021 we embarked on one of the most challenging projects with the Uttarakhand government - the Char Dham Project. With a huge team of our trek leaders, photographers, documentary filmmakers, and SDRF personnel we set off our feet to find the trek routes to Char Dham. The project which was flagged by the Chief Minister Pushakar Singh Dhami himself, had his vision very clear.
Find the trekking route to the Char Dham to make it accessible to all, and generate employment for the remote locals. Within a matter of a year we manifested the vision of the Chief Minister in the form of all the routes that went to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath starting from Rishikesh. This not only gave an alternative route to the pilgrims to reach the Char Dham but it also gave employment opportunities to close to 20,000 people living en-route Char Dham.
Meghalaya government
With the Meghalaya government, back in 2023 the company undertook a massive project of tracking down and mapping trekking trails in the region and documented thirty such trails.
Under this project the team also gave a Trip Leaders Training Programme to the locals to equip them for first aid in medical emergencies and handle any crisis situation through rescue techniques, and this gave a major impetus to the rural economy and helped in promoting local tourism.

Our Story : Growth of TTH
Trek The Himalayas was founded in 2010 by two seasoned mountaineers with a vision of making trekking safe, accessible, and meaningful.

Indian Trekking Industry Before 2010
To understand the inspiring growth story of Trek The Himalayas, let's take a look at the shape of adventure tourism in India before and around 2010. Before 2010, the trekking industry was small, fragmented, and largely norganized, without any standardization for safety and quality protocols. As the trekking culture was at its nascent stage, there was an evident lack of information about organizing, managing, and safely concluding treks. Also, the interested trekkers were having a tough time to get reliable info on routes, conditions, and logistics.
Around this time, due to the limited development of proper trekking techniques and conventions, only inexperienced guides and trek leaders were available. They usually lacked correct knowledge in first aid, risk assessment, and basic mountaineering skills. As a result, there was a high rate of accidents and fatalities. The operations were largely seasonal, that too when weather remained good, which meant most treks were only feasible in summer and autumn. Moreover, social media expansion was very limited, with a very few options of online booking platforms, resulting in sluggish growth. So to sum it up, due to the lack of organized infrastructure, safety protocols, and limited information, trekking was much less accessible to the average person. Then enters Trek The Himalayas…….

How Trek The Himalayas Became a Game Changer
At its core, the beginning of TTH wasn't about business but a dream – a dream to ensure safety, enjoyment, and respect for nature. Hence, we deemed safety as an uncompromising commitment, something of paramount importance. In an environment where nature's elegance can't be experienced without risk, Trek The Himalayas implemented the best safety measures with highest quality equipment.
When it comes to high-altitude trekking, TTH has heavily invested in world-class safety equipment. As per the difficulty of routes and types of terrains, we have readily available tools, including walkie-talkies, ropes, harnesses, gaiters, portable oxygen cylinders, and pulse oximeters. On top of it, they engage in frequent safety briefings, evacuation drills, and weather monitoring protocols. With this approach, trekkers feel completely safe even in the most challenging conditions.

Safety Comes First
Since skilled leadership is the key to a safe and delightful expedition, we have a dedicated team of highly expert and certified trek leaders. They all are properly certified with Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC), Advanced Mountaineering Course (AMC), and Wilderness First Aid Responder Course. They are well-trained to handle emergencies, manage and address health issues in remote, high-altitude places.
Another way of ensuring safety and comfort of trekkers is the way we recognized the utility of local expertise. Most of our leaders are native to this region, having a deep knowledge of variations in terrains. They know the routes, weather patterns, biodiversity, and culture of this entire region like the back of their hands. This has immensely helped them to carefully design interesting trekking routes, only to maximize the trekking experience. With an observing eye and years of experience, they have been exploring new camping spots and putting them together to form treks.

Cost-Effective Approach
One of the key drivers of TTH's growth is our cost-effective proposals for trekkers, without compromising safety, of course. Well before 2010, it was nearly impossible for common people to go trekking or nature expedition because of cost bearings. These activities were expensive and out of reach for people at large. Not only that, the scenario was so gloomy that the solo trekking was just out of the picture. This realization on the part of our management proved to be the turning point. We brought down the cost considerably by utilizing efficient operations with local infrastructure and support. We use local home-stays, locally-grown food, cost-efficient logistics, community guides, expert local chefs, and shared resources. This surefire approach straight away became beneficial for the company as well as common people. Trekking was no more a luxury now and the Himalayas were open not just to select few but to people from every corner of India.

A Boon for Local Economy
Our journey saw a paradigm shift when we decided to create a positive impact on the local economies. Over the years, we have stood in the forefront of bringing change in the lives of local people in ways big and small. From the very beginning, owing to their unparalleled knowledge of the culture, our founders employed local guides, porters, cooks, and homestay owners. Apart from the expertise of local guides, the local chefs have been preparing nutritious food, required for high-altitude trekking. With consistent creation of livelihood opportunities, we succeeded in bringing a boom in the village economy. We started purchasing locally-produced crops, encouraged tea houses to open, and helped flourish small shops and transport services.
One of our important achievements to discuss here is the way we encourage reverse migration. With this new thriving local economy, young villagers are coming back and leveraging their experience to benefit from employment opportunities. Not only that, this reinvigoration has helped re-grow abandoned villages as well. Former residents are finding every reason to come back, restore their heritage, and preserve their culture once again. In other words, TTH has been instrumental in infusing a renewed sense of pride in local people for their culture. This enhanced pride for their traditions has also increased social cohesion among them.

Responsibility is in Sustainability
As we grew in prominence, so did our sense of responsibility. We embraced sustainable tourism practices well before the term became a slogan. With a firm vigor, TTH abides by the "Leave No Trace" policy to minimize the impacts of human activities on nature. As per this policy, eco-friendly and sustainable practices are integrated into our trek operations. These practices include waste segregation, carrying back plastic bottles, fruit peels, wrappers, single-use plastic, trail litter, and other non-biodegradable substances. The underlying philosophy of this approach is for everyone to respect nature, culture, and wildlife. The Leave No Trace principle will go a long way to ensure the environment remains pristine for future generations to come.
One of the profound path-breaking initiatives taken by Trek The Himalayas is launching its flagship campaign, "Heal Himala". This campaign is designed with a goal to restore the authentic glory of the Himalayas through effective steps. Under this program, TTH teams actively clean the waste and garbage from every possible trek of an entire region. It also includes regular clean-up drives and awareness programs that involve local communities. This local participation has been a key contributor to the larger environmental conservation. The success of Heal Himala is echoed by the fact that our teams have so far cleared around 100,000 Kg of waste from multiple treks. In its true sense, this initiative is sustainability in action.
Our Vision
Our vision is simple – we want to create a trekking infrastructure that provides an exceptional trekking experience to trekkers, facilitate resources to boost local economy, and utilize sustainable practices to protect the environment. Today, our trekkers feel safe and comfortable trekking with us, while a substantial number of people are coming back to their villages to open homestays and conveyance services for economic benefit. Moreover, our eco-tourism strategies are working and making the environment cleaner.
