The entire trail is bordered by small Himalayan peaks, at the destination, it gives the nearest of mountains like Mount Vasuki, Mount Bagirathi I, II, III, the mythologically known Mount Meru, and also the Satopan Peak. All these peaks have their own stories in Hindu mythology giving this trek a major spiritual significance. Now, what makes this one of the most challenging treks in India is first the rugged terrain.

The walk to the Gangotri glacier and then towards Tapovan is ambiguous, to say the least. The trekkers make their way every time they go, and here, their experience and trekking skills come in handy. The second most challenging part is crossing the Bagirathi River through a manual pulley.
