Detailed Itinerary of Bhal Padri Trek

This is how each day on this trek will be planned:

Day 1: Reach Bhaderwah from Jammu

Bhaderwah is some 190 km away from Jammu and the trip is absolutely fascinating. The route takes you through some famous towns of Jammu region such as Udhampur, Batote, and Pul Doda. Bhaderwah can be reached through a number of ways, depending on what you prefer and what makes you feel comfortable.

You can complete the whole journey cutting across some of the most picturesque mountain roads, with sharp curves and high slopes. Alternatively, you can board the Jammu-Udhampur train and then book a shared taxi at Udhampur to Bhaderwah.

Day 2: Drive from Bhaderwah to Padri Pass and Trek to Bhal Padri Meadows

Now your trek begins right from here - at the base of the pass - and ascends gradually through the grasslands. You will tread across a beautiful meadow with rocky patches in between. You will start getting a sweeping visual of green meadows on one side, the jagged peaks of the Himalaya of Kishtwar on the other. And the lush green valley seems to stretch in every direction.

The stunning top of Bhal Padri Trek offers an astounding view of the mesmerizing stretch of Bhal Padri meadows. An exposed path in front of you will guide you toward the village of Bhalessa, where you may as well stop and make your trek a day longer.

You can go down to the meadows and have some time to explore the flat grasslands and the coniferous forests around. You can camp overnight in the meadows provided you intend to come back the next day and have all the necessary trekking equipment.

In order to go back, retrace all the way to Padri Pass and then drive to Bhaderwah. In case you have used a shared taxi on your way up, you had better make an arrangement with the same driver to bring you back.

Day 3: Drive from Bhaderwah to Jammu

To reach Jammu from Bhaderwah, you can either take the same route that you took before the trek or choose any of the previously mentioned options.

During this time period, the weather is extremely pleasant when the average temperature is neither too hot nor too cold. During the daytime, it ranges from 12 to 25-degrees and night time temperature is 5 to 10-degrees.

In order to reach this trek, you need to cover a distance of around 190 km all the way from Jammu to Bhaderwah. You can reach Jammu either via plane or train from your respective home towns/cities.

Now, to reach Bhaderwah from Jammu (Airport or Railway Station), you can weigh in your options as per your convenience. You have basically two different modes of transport to get to the base camp.

• J&K Roadways Bus: From the Jammu Bus Stand, you can catch government buses every half an hour, which will take you to Udhampur. The cost of the ticket is reasonable, while the journey is safe, reliable and comfortable. But it will take more time to reach there.
• Taxi/Cab: The alternative option is to avail a private taxi or cab. There are many of them standing in the taxi stand just outside the airport. It’s the costly option, that is, less friendly in terms of your pocket. So avail it only if you are running out of time.
• Train: This option is only for the condition when there are no direct buses or cabs. You have to board a train from Jammu Tawi Railway Station to Udhampur. From there, you can take either a government bus or a shared taxi.
